Description

In the year 3000, the southern end of Manhattan has collapsed into a labyrinth of soot‑darkened towers, drifting dust clouds, and thousand‑year cycles of neglect. Below 30th Street, the Clink is home to nomadic tribes in grey hooded capes, scavengers, and the oppressed citizens living under the brutal rule of the Authority.

From the crumbling rooftop of a three‑story brick apartment block, Pitman — tall, slender, and dressed in a tight black bodysuit — commands the night. His eighteen inches of jet‑black hair whip in the wind as he manipulates two battered silver globes hovering above a circle of dancers in the street below. These globes, relics of ancient technology, broadcast hypnotic sound that bends emotion and movement.

Beside him stands Eudora, short‑haired and sharp‑eyed in her dark grey suit, a leader of the Resistance. On the wall beneath them, a freshly painted two‑headed dragon — one head swallowing its tail, the other baring its teeth — marks the Resistance’s growing defiance.

Below, ten dancers of all ages and backgrounds move in a trance: tattered clothes, poly‑Lycra fashion, hair flying, a hooded monk with a face lost in shadow. Pitman mouths coded commands into the night, controlling the globes with a black handheld device. The music swells, drowning out the distant hum of Authority globes descending half a block away.

Tonight is practice. Soon, Pitman’s sonic control will be used to turn the Authority’s own troops against their masters. The uprising is coming — and the first spark begins with sound.
